Marou

Marou Chocolates was born when Samuel Maruta (trained in finance but hungry for adventure) met Vincent Mourou (who’d left a successful advertising career in San Francisco to find a new direction in Vietnam). A chance encounter during a jungle camping trip in 2010 sparked a shared decision to ditch the predictable path and build something hands-on and meaningful. 

A simple Google search for “cacao plantation” led them to a cocoa farm in Ba Ria Province, an addressless, trial-and-error expedition that became the foundation of Marou. They started in Sam’s kitchen with basic gear, then grew by buying top quality cocoa beans directly from small Vietnamese farmers, one bag at a time, paying premium prices—becoming a pioneering bean-to-bar maker in Asia, crafting mostly dark single-origin chocolate from Vietnam’s ingredients and terroirs.

Chocolate Hunters are thrilled to be the Australian importer and distributor of Marou Chocolate from Vietnam.  We share Marou’s passion for single-origin chocolate, exhibiting the natural flavours of each terroir through simple, quality chocolate recipes.
